The series
Detective Dana Kowalczyk works for the sheriff's office in Murrelet County, a coast of oyster flats, a shut-down mill, a cannery and timber ridges, with the harbor town of Port Ostrey at its center. Her sister Abby vanished sixteen years ago. Every night since, their mother has switched on the porch light at dusk.
Each book opens on a body and closes its case on evidence. Underneath runs one thread: a photograph sewn into a dead woman's coat on the oyster flats, a storefront Dana does not recognize, and the question of where Abby went.
